The proposal respects the symbolic values existing in Piloña’s environment, presenting the Center as an international reference for the Neanderthal’s comprehension. The importance of the Sidrón’s cave calls for a bold intervention, able to give a powerful representative condition to the “Neanderthal Center”. The ground floor, containing the living spaces, opens itself to the sea through a continuous window glazing.

The first floor, which includes the bedrooms, is made up by two volumes separated by the double-height of the living room, thus creating a sense of spaciousness in this small house. The museum chamber expresses a cave “feeling”; a sense of surprise and an urge to descend into the heart of the exhibition will invade the visitor when glimpsing at the large underground space; the main exhibition hall is topped by three skylights whose light will bathe floors and walls, reinforcing the idea of an excavated museum.
